Ingredients

  • 24 square pretzel snaps
  • 24 soft caramel candies about 5 ounces, unwrapped
  • 1 Granny Smith apple small
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 0.125 tsp ground cinnamon

Equipment

  • 1 rimmed baking sheet

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 250°F.
  2. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Arrange the 24 square pretzel snaps in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  4. Place one unwrapped soft caramel candy in the center of each pretzel.
  5. Cut the small Granny Smith apple into 1/4-inch pieces.
  6. Toss the apple pieces with the lemon juice and ground cinnamon.
  7. Pat the apple pieces dry.
  8. Bake for 4–6 minutes, until the caramels look glossy and softened but still hold their shape.
  9. Immediately press one apple piece into each softened caramel.
  10. Cool for 10 minutes, until the caramel firms enough to hold the apple.
  11. Serve within 1 hour so the pretzels stay crisp.

Notes

Pat the apple pieces thoroughly dry so the caramel holds them and the pretzels stay crisp; serve within 1 hour. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days; freezing is not recommended. For a dairy-free swap, use dairy-free soft caramels.
