Ingredients
  

  • 9 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons red and green sprinkles
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup red and green M&M's

Method
 

  1. Put the Rice Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Combine the semisweet chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and unsalted butter in a medium microwave-safe bowl.
  3. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until smooth, about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes.
  4. Stir the vanilla extract into the melted chocolate mixture.
  5. Pour the mixture over the cereal and gently fold until the cereal is evenly coated.
  6. Sprinkle the red and green sprinkles over the cereal and gently fold to distribute.
  7. Transfer the coated cereal to a 2-gallon resealable bag, add the powdered sugar, seal, and shake until the cereal is evenly coated.
  8. Spread the puppy chow on a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet and cool for 20 minutes, until the coating is set.
  9. Stir in the red and green M&M's.

Notes

For an even coating, shake the sealed bag thoroughly. Store airtight in the refrigerator for up to 7 days; freeze for up to 2 months. For a dairy-free version, use dairy-free chocolate chips and a dairy-free butter alternative.
